Monterey County Youth Museum, Monterey

The Monterey County Youth Museum, also known as MY Museum, has been a hub for sparking curiosity and creativity since 1997. It's a place where kids and adults alike can enjoy learning in a fun and engaging way.

Originally a project of the Junior League, MY Museum has grown into a significant nonprofit entity in the community. Before 2008, the museum was housed in a modest 2,700 square foot space on Cannery Row. This initial location was a good start but limited the museum's growth potential. Recognizing the need for expansion, the museum's staff and board embarked on a successful four-year fundraising campaign, culminating in the acquisition of a larger building in downtown Monterey.

The new facility, opened in November 2008, is significantly larger, offering three times more space. It includes nine gallery areas and features over 50 exhibits. These galleries are designed to be interactive and educational, showcasing the diverse industries central to Monterey County. This expansion has allowed MY Museum to reach its full potential as a place for learning and growth.
