Museo "Casa del Alfeñique", Puebla

Museo Casa del Alfeñique is housed in one of the finest surviving examples of late colonial domestic architecture in the historic centre. The late 18th-century residence is linked to architect Antonio de Santa María Incháurregui and blacksmith Juan Ignacio Morales. Its name comes from alfeñique, a delicate sugar paste, because the white mortar façade resembles piped icing.

The exterior is the main visual attraction. Its Baroque façade, a highly decorative colonial style, combines carved ornament, iron balconies, brickwork, ceramic details, and pale stucco reliefs, meaning raised plaster designs. Inside, patios, or open inner courtyards, stairways, and domestic rooms preserve the layout of an upper-class colonial house.

Opened as a regional museum in 1926, the house now displays collections related to local history, art, and daily life. Visitors may see paintings, sculptures, textiles, codices, meaning old manuscript or pictorial records, period furniture, carriages, and religious or civic objects. Some rooms evoke domestic life, while others explore colonial society and the China Poblana, a traditional female figure linked to local dress and legend.
