Puente de Bubas, Puebla
Puente de Bubas is an old colonial bridge from the 17th century. It was buried when the San Francisco riverbed was vaulted and recovered in 2014. Currently it is part of the tourist corridor called "Los Secretos de Puebla".
The city of Puebla was founded in 1531 on the banks of the San Francisco River. The Franciscans were the first religious to settle in the city, because since it was founded, they were given land for their convent and church.
There was a need to cross the river when part of the inhabitants of the newly founded city of Puebla moved to the western side to build the first expansion of the city. Documentally it is known that the oldest bridge was that of the Franciscan convent, whose name it took and that linked the neighborhood of El Alto with the center of the population. This first bridge built in 1555 by order of the corregidor don Luis de León Romano . However, soon after, said bridge was insufficient, so another bridge was built two headwaters further south of the first in the same year of 1555.
