Nieuwe Luxor Theater, Rotterdam
Since 2001, the prominent source of entertainment in Rotterdam has been the New Luxor Theater. Initially intended to replace the Old Luxor Theater, both venues now offer a vibrant and diverse array of performances. Their schedules encompass musicals, music theatre, variety shows, cabaret, theater concerts, opera, and dance performances.
In the mid-1990s, Rotterdam's municipal authorities formulated plans to construct a fresh theater. To realize this vision, they initiated a design competition. Architect Peter Wilson emerged victorious in 1996, and by 1998, construction commenced on the Wilhelminapier situated at the Kop van Zuid – an area still marked by ruins. In April 2001, with Queen Beatrix in attendance, the theater celebrated its official inauguration.
The New Luxor Theater boasts a capacious auditorium accommodating up to 1535 spectators. Complementing this, there exist three versatile foyers and an exclusive VIP lounge. The venue frequently hosts extensive runs of significant productions, aiming to furnish a broad audience with a superior program that evokes, uplifts, entertains, and inspires.
