Our Lady of the Conception of the Military, Recife
Our Lady of the Conception of the Military is a beautiful baroque cathedral with a simple façade but amazing interior. It is decorated with fascinating rococo carvings and wall paintings. The most important of them is the image of the Virgin Mary and the representation of the first battle of Guararapes made on the ceiling. The church was built in 1723 by the Brotherhood of Soldiers of the Garrison Sergeants of Recife. To reach it from Rua da Palma, turn left at the junction with Rua Nova and go about 40 meters until you see the church on your right.
