Palma Aquarium, Palma de Mallorca

Palma Aquarium, Palma de Mallorca

Palma Aquarium first opened its doors in 2007 and is operated by Coral World International. Spanning over 55 aquariums and five million litres of seawater, it showcases more than 8,000 marine creatures representing around 700 species drawn from the Mediterranean, Indian, Atlantic, and Pacific Oceans.

A highlight is the famous “Big Blue”-a colossal shark tank, 8.5 meters deep and holding 3.5 million litres, making it the deepest in Europe. Visitors descend through a transparent tunnel as sharks and rays glide overhead, creating an unforgettable underwater sensation. The aquarium also boasts the largest living coral collection on the continent, supporting breeding and rehabilitation efforts in controlled environments to contribute to reef conservation.

The immersive experience unfolds as a journey that begins with authentic Mediterranean habitats-home to starfish, groupers, octopuses, seahorses, and more, some even accessible via touch pools. Beyond these lies the Tropical Seas zone with vibrant coral reefs and exotic fish species, and then the Mediterranean Gardens, which combine native flora, turtles, koi ponds, rays, and children’s play areas alongside cafés and shaded rest spots. The rooftop “Jungle” zone emulates a tropical rainforest environment, complete with lush vegetation, a dramatic waterfall, cooling misters, and is among the largest of its type in Europe.

Palma Aquarium is more than a visual spectacle-it’s a centre for education, conservation and interactive fun, offering feeding shows, 3D cinema, guided tours, and experiences such as shark diving, snorkeling with stingrays, and even slumber parties by the shark tank. With over 400,000 visitors annually and a philosophy rooted in environmental awareness, it’s a must‑see destination for families and marine enthusiasts alike visiting Mallorca.
