Parque Alderdi Eder (Alderdi Eder Park), San Sebastian

Alderdi Eder Park, also known as Alderdi Eder Gardens, is a beautiful and historic park located in San Sebastian. It is one of the most iconic and typical images of the city, thanks to its charming layout and unique history.

The park was created in 1880 on the site of an old military maneuvering ground located next to the stunning Bay of La Concha. Its original purpose was to serve as a place of recreation and attractions, which is why it housed a circus, a velodrome, and a puppet theater.

However, in 1887, the park underwent a major transformation when a casino was built on the grounds. The casino, designed by Luis Aladrén Mendivil and Adolfo Morales de los Ríos, later became the seat of the San Sebastián City Council, leading to the complete renovation of the entire area.

The gardens of Alderdi Eder were designed by Pierre Ducasse, a renowned French gardener. They are known for their beautiful flower beds, green hedges, pond, fountains, and statues. The park also features a hundred tamarind trees that provide ample shade, palm trees, tamarisks, and benches where visitors can relax and enjoy the view.

The park is a popular destination for families, as there are play parks for children to enjoy. Visitors can also take in the breathtaking views of San Sebastian and the Playa de la Concha. With its rich history and beautiful design, the Alderdi Eder Park Parque is an idyllic location in San Sebastian.
