Providence Place, Providence

Providence Place is a large enclosed shopping and entertainment complex opened in August 1999 as a central part of the Capital Center redevelopment. Designed by Friedrich St. Florian and Arrowstreet, the building combines red brick, stone-colored trim, broad window bands and a curved glass atrium. Its design recalls older commercial blocks, traditional department stores and European shopping galleries, while fitting around a river and active railway tracks.

Three main retail levels contain department stores, fashion shops, beauty brands, footwear outlets, technology retailers and smaller specialty businesses. Dining ranges from quick food-court counters and cafés to full-service restaurants. Wide interior walkways, upper-level balconies and the large central atrium make the complex easy to explore, while several entrances connect different sides of the surrounding district.

Entertainment is concentrated on the upper levels. Apple Cinemas operates a 17-screen theater, while Level99 offers team-based physical and mental challenges with an adjoining restaurant and bar. Dave & Buster’s combines arcade games with casual dining and has operated here since 2000. The mall has a large parking garage, and venue hours may vary.
