Puerta de Felipe V (Gate of Felipe V), Ronda
The Gate of Felipe V is a historic city entrance that replaced and expanded the earlier Arab Gate of the Bridge in 1742. This upgrade was prompted by the collapse of the first new bridge in 1741 and the resulting need to accommodate the increased flow of people and goods entering the city. Named after Felipe V, the first Bourbon king of Spain, the gate stands as a significant architectural and urban landmark.
The monument features a sturdy double stone arch made of finely cut masonry blocks. It is topped by three decorative pinnacles and adorned with the Anjou shell and the royal coat of arms of the Bourbon family, reflecting its regal roots.
The gate’s design blends harmoniously with the surrounding old town architecture, marking the transition from the Puente Viejo (Old Bridge) road into the heart of the city.
Nearby, visitors will also find the "Sillón del Moro," or the Moorish King's seat, adding cultural context to this emblematic gateway.
