Regensburg Theater, Regensburg

Regensburg Theater is a prestigious theatrical organization. This renowned institution is dedicated to the production of a wide range of performances, including operas, musicals, ballets, plays, and concerts. With its rich history and multiple performance venues, Regensburg Theater is a vital cultural hub in the region.

The theater traces its origins back to 1804. Designed by the architect Emanuel Herigoyen, this theater unfortunately fell victim to a devastating fire in 1849. Determined to revive the cultural center, a new theater was constructed based on Herigoyen's design and opened its doors in 1852 with a splendid performance of Meyerbeer's opera "Die Hugenotten." This newly rebuilt theater, now known as the Theater am Bismarckplatz, became the principal venue for operas and operettas in Regensburg.

Over the years, the Regensburg Theater has undergone several renovations and modernizations to meet the evolving needs of the audience. In 1898, it was extensively modernized, and in the 1990s, significant renovations were carried out to enhance its facilities. Today, it continues to serve as the primary stage for operatic productions, operettas, and occasional performances of ballets, musicals, plays, and orchestral concerts.

In addition to the Regensburg Theater operates other performance venues throughout the city. The Velodrom, originally built in 1897 as a Radsporthalle (cycling sports hall), is the main stage for ballets, musicals, plays, and orchestral concerts. With a seating capacity of 620, it provides a larger space for these types of productions.
