Sellwood Antique Row, Portland

Sellwood Antique Row is a walkable shopping district known for antique stores, vintage dealers and independent businesses. Its character began to develop in the 1960s, when antique sellers moved into affordable, empty storefronts. By the 1970s, the neighbourhood contained at least 30 antique shops, establishing its long association with antiques and collectibles.

Visitors can browse furniture, jewellery, clothing, ceramics, artwork, records, household objects and architectural pieces from different periods. Some businesses operate as antique malls with many dealers under one roof, while others specialise in selected objects or restored furnishings. Stars Antiques Mall opened in 1990, followed by the sister Stars & Splendid location in 1993. Together, the businesses became major anchors of the district, with Stars & Splendid representing more than 100 independent dealers across roughly 10,000 square feet.

Historic commercial buildings, cafés, bakeries and locally owned restaurants add variety to a visit. Displays are often densely arranged, and stock changes regularly, rewarding visitors who take time to examine shelves, cabinets and individual stalls. Opening hours differ between shops, particularly on weekdays. Nearby river paths, Oaks Bottom Wildlife Refuge and older residential streets also allow antique browsing to be combined with a walk through the surrounding neighbourhood.
