Shri Panch Mukhi Hanuman Temple, Karachi

Shri Panch Mukhi Hanuman Temple is a historic Hindu place of worship dedicated to Panch Mukhi Hanuman, the five-faced form of Hanuman. Devotees and temple custodians traditionally describe the site as more than 1,500 years old, although the age of the surviving structure has not been established conclusively.

A heritage survey records differing accounts, including claims that the temple is at least 200 years old and that the present building dates from 1927. The temple contains a central shrine devoted to Panch Mukhi Hanuman, together with sacred images of other Hindu deities and spaces for prayer and religious ceremonies. According to local belief, its principal image of Hanuman was discovered at the site and is naturally formed rather than made by human hands. During renovation and expansion work in 2019, workers uncovered several idols and other objects beneath the temple grounds. Finds included representations of Hanuman, Ganesha, a female deity, a vanara figure, and a Shiva lingam. Museum officials who examined the objects suggested that some could be around 300 years old, although further archaeological research was required to determine their precise age. The temple remains an active center for Hindu worship and community gatherings, with larger congregations during Hanuman Jayanti, Holi, Diwali, and other religious observances.

Visitors may observe its shrines, sacred images, offerings, decorations, and ceremonies while learning about local Hindu traditions. Modest clothing, quiet behavior, and respect for worshippers and any restrictions surrounding the inner sanctuary are appropriate, particularly during prayers, ceremonies, and busy festival gatherings.
