Ski Dubai, Dubai

Ski Dubai, Dubai (must see)

Are you a bit fed up with the heat? Would you like to cool off while taking advantage of yet another wonderful tourist attraction that Dubai offers? If so, you should go to Ski Dubai, which is a part of the Mall of the Emirates, one of the biggest shopping centers in the world.

Ski Dubai is an indoor ski resort which opened in 2005 in an area of over 22,000 square metres with 6000 tons of snow. It features a 60-meter high man-made mountain and 5 ski-slopes, including a 400 meter-long slope – the first indoor “Black Run” in the world.

For those of you who prefer snowboarding, you won’t be disappointed with the 90 meter-long quarter pipe. There is a 3000 square meter Snow Park where you can have sled and toboggan rides; there is also an ice body-slide, a snowball shooting gallery, climbing towers, a 3D theatre and an ice cave. There’s even an area in the park where you can build a snowman!

The daytime temperature is maintained at -1° centigrade and at night it falls to -6° centigrade. Clothes, gloves, skis and a snowboard are included in the entrance fee.

The resort has two restaurants: the Saint Moritz Café which is a replica of a traditional mountain ski-lodge. Snacks and a sit-down meal are served here; there is a very good menu for children. The Avalanche Café, which has an “outdoor” terrace, serves snacks, sweets and hot and cold drinks – but no alcohol.

Tip:
Skiers of all levels should make sure their boots FIT PROPERLY and are not too big!

The ultra-modern city of Dubai did not always look the way it does now. For centuries, the city's economy relied heavily on the pearling and fishing industries. The Maktoum family, Dubai's current rulers, took over the reigns in 1883. The discovery of oil in 1966 set the change for a shift away from reliance on the marine industry.
