Statue of Pierre Pfilmlin - The Orangerie Park, Strasbourg

Every city possesses a park that's a must-visit, and in Strasbourg, that title belongs to the Orangerie Park (Parc de l'Orangerie). Dating back to the 17th century, this park holds the distinction of being the oldest and largest in the city, covering 26 hectares. It's undoubtedly the favored park among Strasbourg's residents, who frequently indulge in leisurely walks, jogging, family outings, picnics, and even capturing wedding photos amidst the kiosk or the arches of the rose garden.

The Orangerie Park is beautifully adorned, boasting artistic creations that grace the park's pathways. Notable among these is the Statue of Pierre Pfilmlin, a former Mayor of Strasbourg. This bronze statue was placed at the park's entrance on the Council of Europe side in 2007, commemorating the 100th anniversary of Pfilmlin's birth. A prominent political figure and staunch supporter of the European cause, he held ministerial roles under the IVth and Vth Republics, served as the Mayor of Strasbourg from 1959 to 1983, and assumed the presidency of the European Parliament from 1984 to 1987.

The sculptural masterpiece is the creation of Thierry Delorme, an artist hailing from Alsace. It depicts the politician in motion, slightly larger than life-size, with the aim of establishing a sense of intimacy with those who observe it, as per the artist's intent.
