Strohauer's Cafe, Heidelberg

Strohauer’s Café Alt Heidelberg belongs to a family baking tradition that began in 1886. The café combines indoor seating with a spacious garden terrace shaded by trees and awnings. Its position along a busy pedestrian route makes it a convenient place for breakfast, coffee or a longer pause during a walking tour.

The interior was redesigned while preserving links to the café’s history. Deep green walls, wooden furniture, patterned fabrics and historic photographs create the character of a traditional European coffeehouse. Older local images and framed portraits connect the updated rooms with the establishment’s long-running family heritage.

The menu ranges from croissants, pancakes, fruit bowls and avocado bread to Bavarian white sausages served with pretzels. Later options include schnitzel, Maultaschen, Flammkuchen and cheese Spätzle. The Viktoria-Torte combines chocolate sponge, citrus, cream, wine and rum. Inspired by a royal dinner in 1962, it was sent to Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace in 1963.
