Tamarama Beach, Sydney

Tamarama Beach is one of Sydney’s smallest yet most striking beaches, tucked between Bondi and Bronte along the city’s eastern coastline. Often nicknamed “Glamarama” for its fashionable local crowd, Tamarama sits in a narrow, steep-sided bay framed by sandstone cliffs and headlands. The beach measures only about 80 metres in length, giving it an intimate feel compared to its larger neighbours, while the surrounding parklands and coastal pathways offer scenic views of the Pacific Ocean.

The beach has a reputation for powerful surf and shifting rips, making it popular among experienced surfers but less ideal for casual swimmers. The Tamarama Surf Life Saving Club, established in 1906, is one of the oldest in Australia and continues to patrol the beach, ensuring safety in challenging conditions. Sheltered picnic areas and grassy terraces above the sand provide space for relaxation, and a café near the promenade serves the steady flow of walkers and beachgoers.

Tamarama forms part of the famous Bondi to Bronte Coastal Walk, a 2.5-kilometre trail that traces the dramatic headlands and beaches of Sydney’s eastern suburbs. Each spring, it becomes a focal point of the Sculpture by the Sea exhibition, when large-scale artworks transform the cliffs and shoreline into an outdoor gallery.
