Temple Emanu-El of Palm Beach, West Palm Beach

Temple Emanu-El of Palm Beach, West Palm Beach

Temple Emanu-El of Palm Beach holds the distinction of being the first synagogue founded in the city, with its roots stretching back to 1962. It all began with a small group of passionate Jewish pioneers, led by Benjamin Lehr, who, with the help of local Christian clergy, successfully secured permission to form a charter.

Initially, Shabbat services were held at the Episcopal Church of Bethesda-by-the-Sea, but the rapidly growing congregation soon realized the need for their own dedicated space. In 1964, they moved into a modest building on Sunrise Avenue, setting the stage for decades of growth and community building.

As the congregation flourished, Temple Emanu-El moved to its current location. Over the years, the synagogue's expansion continued, culminating in the completion of its stunning new sanctuary in the mid-1990s.
