St. Edward's Catholic Church, West Palm Beach
St. Edward's Catholic Church, established in 1926 under the guidance of Father Felix Clarkson, was envisioned as a place of worship to meet the needs of the growing town's residents and visitors. The church's construction was a remarkable achievement, completed in just nine months thanks to the efforts of Father Clarkson and the generosity of 291 donors. The church was formally dedicated in February 1927, and its Spanish Renaissance design, featuring two towering spires and a red-tiled roof, has made it a significant architectural landmark in the area.
Inside, the church boasts an impressive array of religious and artistic features, including the Altar of the Sacred Heart, crafted from Carrara marble and reaching over 40 feet in height. The altar is adorned with a mural of the twelve apostles and a depiction of the crucifixion. The church is also renowned for its stunning stained glass windows, known as the "Marian windows," which depict the life of the Blessed Mother.
In addition to its spiritual role, Saint Edward's Church serves the broader community by providing a venue for local events and charity work, including meals for food pantries and hosting the annual Palm Beach inter-faith Thanksgiving service.
