Tessin Palace, Stockholm
The Tessin Palace, a baroque townhouse situated in the historic Gamla Stan district of Stockholm, is a remarkable architectural gem from the late 17th century. Located adjacent to the Royal Palace and facing Slottsbacken, the main approach to the Stockholm Palace, Tessin Palace is flanked by the narrow alleys Finska Kyrkogränd and Bollhusgränd, placing it in a prominent and picturesque part of the city.
Constructed between 1694 and 1700, Tessin Palace was the creation of Nicodemus Tessin the Younger, a celebrated architect who designed numerous significant structures in Stockholm for the Swedish royal family. The palace exemplifies the Baroque style with its strong, geometric lines, cubical form, and pastel yellow façade punctuated by perfectly aligned windows. The building’s design reflects the architectural grandeur and artistic influences of the time.
Originally built as a private residence for Tessin, the palace was inherited by his son, Carl Gustaf Tessin. However, due to financial difficulties, Carl Gustaf was forced to sell the property in 1755. The palace subsequently became part of the Swedish crown's holdings and has served as the residence for the Governor of Stockholm and later for the Governor of Stockholm County.
In addition to its historical significance, the interior of Tessin Palace boasts a modern touch with a hand-tufted Kasthall rug, designed by architect Sofia Hedqvist, blending contemporary design with the palace’s rich heritage. The palace's location in Gamla Stan, the oldest part of Stockholm, known for its medieval charm and architectural splendor, further enhances its allure as a site of cultural and historical importance.

City Center (Norrmalm) Walk
Once upon a cobblestone, Norrmalm wasn’t even part of Stockholm. Up until 1635, it was a town of its own before it decided to join the “big leagues.” Fast forward a few centuries, and this central district has become a spirited jumble of old-world charm and postwar boldness. The 1950s and ‘60s came in swinging wrecking balls, knocking down swathes of old buildings to make room for future... view more
