The House of International Relations, Montpellier

The House of International Relations, also known as the Nelson-Mandela House of International Relations, is located in the historic Hôtel de Sully, situated at the end of the Charles de Gaulle Esplanade in the heart of Montpellier. This prestigious building is not only a symbol of the city's international outreach but also a vibrant cultural hub, hosting a variety of events throughout the year. The structure also accommodates the Maison de l’Europe de Montpellier, offering exhibition spaces, a reception hall, and a venue for numerous cultural gatherings.

The House of International Relations serves as a cornerstone for the city’s international projects and relations. It maintains active connections with Montpellier's many sister cities, such as Barcelona, Bethlehem, Chengdu, Heidelberg, Louisville, and Rio de Janeiro, among others. These partnerships foster cultural exchange, cooperation, and shared initiatives across a broad spectrum of areas.

The building itself is more than just an administrative space. It hosts approximately 50 cultural events each year, including exhibitions, conferences, theatrical performances, and readings. It is a key venue for Montpellier's major festivals, such as the Radio France Festival, Montpellier Danse, the Comédie du Livre, and the Mediterranean Cinema Festival. This makes it a lively meeting place for both locals and international visitors.

Additionally, the House of International Relations is home to consular offices, including the Honorary Consulate for Germany. The facility provides practical information and support for international affairs and cultural exchanges. It also manages the “Martin Luther King” area, where associations with international connections can rent premises to further their activities.
