Theater der Schatten (Theater of Shadows), Bamberg

The Theater of Shadows, founded by Norbert Götz in 1984, is a renowned institution specializing in contemporary shadow theatre. It has gained prominence through its innovative techniques and captivating performances, continuously pushing the boundaries of light and shadow manipulation.

The theater's exploration of polarization in the 1980s allowed for the creation of visually stunning and vividly colored shadow plays. In the following decade, they developed specialized lighting equipment, resulting in sharply contoured shadows and reflections, expanding the possibilities of representation.

The theater has two fixed venues in Bamberg, where they present "Licht und Schatten in Bamberg," a performance that explores the city's history through light and shadow. They also showcase new productions at the "Neues Palais," pushing the limits of the art form. During winter, the theater embarks on tours, captivating audiences with their diverse repertoire and imaginative use of light and shadow.
