Théâtre Jeune Public, Strasbourg

Théâtre Jeune Public, Strasbourg

Théâtre Jeune Public, known as the National Dramatic Theater for Children and Youth since 1991, is a French theater established in 1974 in Strasbourg by actor and director André Pomarat, who was part of the inaugural class at the Higher School of Dramatic Arts of Strasbourg. In 1990, the institution received the designation of National Dramatic Center (CDN).

The theater presently operates across two locations in the city center: the Petite Scène in the Petite France district and the Grande Scène in the Krutenau district. Its programming stands out for its inclusivity, catering to all age groups. It offers performances suitable for young children as well as exclusive offerings tailored for adult audiences. The theater embraces various forms of art, including puppetry, object theater, shadow theater, dance, circus, and visual arts.

The primary aim of this theater is to engage with children and adolescents. It strives to introduce theater to the very young audience and to foster an appreciation for it among teenagers, a demographic often overlooked by traditional theaters.

This theater serves as a hub for artistic innovation centered around puppetry. It seeks to blend traditional storytelling and techniques with contemporary and innovative approaches to captivate and surprise the audience.

Since 1977, the National Dramatic Center has been organizing the Les Giboulées Festival, a March event held across several theaters in the Eurometropolis of Strasbourg. This festival showcases numerous creative works that explore these diverse theatrical genres.
