Vabamu Museum of Occupations and Freedom, Tallinn

The Vabamu Museum of Occupations and Freedom was established in Tallinn on July 1, 2003. Its primary focus is the historical period spanning from 1940 to 1991 in Estonia's history, during which the country experienced successive occupations by the Soviet Union, Nazi Germany, and later, a second occupation by the Soviet Union. Throughout most of this era, Estonia was officially referred to as the Estonian Soviet Socialist Republic.

This museum is under the management of the Kistler-Ritso Estonian Foundation, which is named in honor of Dr. Olga Kistler-Ritso. Dr. Kistler-Ritso serves as the founder, president, and major financial supporter of the foundation. The foundation's members initiated the collection of artifacts and historical materials for the museum in 1999. They also established collaborations with various organizations, including the Estonian International Commission for the Investigation of Crimes Against Humanity, the Estonian State Commission on the Examination of Repression Policies, the Memento Association, the Research Centre of the Soviet Era in Estonia, and the Russian Memorial Society, which is dedicated to commemorating the victims of Soviet repressions, among others.
