Yekaterinburg Municipal Puppet Theater, Yekaterinburg

The Yekaterinburg Municipal Puppet Theater is one of the oldest professional puppet theaters in the Ural region. It opened in 1932, during a period when puppet theater played an important role in children’s education in the Soviet Union. From the beginning, it focused on clear stories and expressive puppets for young audiences, and over time it developed its own traditions and a long-standing creative team.

The repertoire focuses on fairy tales, folk stories, and well-known literary works adapted for the puppet stage. Performances are usually short, often under an hour, making them suitable for children, while some productions are aimed at teenagers and adults and use more complex ideas and visuals. The small auditorium allows close contact between performers and the audience.

In addition to regular shows, the theater often holds workshops, creative meetings, and educational programs. These activities explain how puppets are made and how performances are prepared, giving visitors a practical look at a traditional form of theater that is still active today.
