Abtei St. Bonifaz, Munich

The Abtei Saint Bonifaz is a Benedictine Monastery situated in the center of Munich. Nowadays, it offers accommodations in small rooms to individuals who are interested in experiencing the monastic life for a brief period while also engaging in charitable activities.

King Ludwig I founded the Abtei Saint Bonifaz with the intention of revitalizing the spiritual aspect of the country, which had been diminished by secularization. The monastery was constructed in the Byzantine architectural style and was built between 1835 and 1850. Inside the church, you can find the tomb of King Ludwig I. During World War II, the monastery sustained some damage but was partially restored after the war. Presently, the monks take care of homeless individuals and provide educational services. The Abbey is affiliated with the Bavarian Congregation of the Benedictine Confederation.

The Abtei Saint Bonifaz is overseen by a group of 12 Benedictine Monks. They welcome both laypeople and clergy for meditation and the opportunity to live a peaceful and contemplative life for a short period. The monastery offers the option to rent cells on a daily or weekly basis. Guests who stay at the monastery immerse themselves in the monks' daily routine. This includes waking up early, participating in prayers, assisting with household chores and gardening, and engaging with the monks. The monks also serve traditional German meals to their guests, along with a selection of non-alcoholic beverages and beer.
