Bertramka Villa, Prague

Upon arriving in Prague in October 1787 to oversee his opera "Don Giovanni", W. A. Mozart found respite in this villa, nestled amidst vineyards and fields, serving as a serene retreat at the time. It was within its tranquil confines that the composer completed the renowned opera.

Today, the Bertramka villa stands as a testament to Mozart's sojourn, hosting an exhibition dedicated to the maestro himself and his gracious hosts, composer and educator Frantisek Xaver Dusek and his soprano wife, Josefina Duskova. Comprising seven rooms of exhibition space, the villa's residential area has been meticulously restored to evoke the ambiance of Mozart's era, housing a wealth of memorabilia, including musical instruments, manuscripts, letters, engravings, and historical documents.

Among the collection's treasures, easily overlooked amidst the myriad exhibits, are thirteen strands of hair purportedly belonging to the composer. You may also find a rare piano crafted in Vienna in 1780, the only one of its kind remaining in existence today.

In recent years, the Bertramka villa has also blossomed into a vibrant concert venue, hosting performances within its hallowed halls and the 18th-century Sala Terrena, adorned with original murals dating back to 1700 and 1780.
