Camacrafts, Vientiane

Camacrafts, Vientiane

Camacrafts is a small handicraft shop connected with a nonprofit project created by CAMA Services in 1990. The program was started to help Lao and Hmong communities rebuild their livelihoods after the Vietnam War. Its main goal is to provide steady income for women living in rural villages. Many artisans work from their homes, producing handmade pieces that are later brought to the shop and sold.

The products focus on traditional textile work using techniques such as reverse appliqué, cross-stitch, embroidery, and batik. Visitors will find handmade items like bags, pillow covers, purses, and wall hangings. Many pieces feature geometric patterns and bright colors commonly seen in Hmong and Lao textiles.

A visit to the shop offers a closer look at this type of handmade work. The items are carefully stitched and can take several days to finish, depending on the design. Because they are made by hand, each piece is slightly different. Buying from the shop supports women working in more than twenty villages, helping them earn income while continuing traditional craft skills.
