Night Market, Vientiane

The Night Market is an open-air market that takes place each evening along the riverfront. It was established around 2010 as part of a project to improve and organize the riverside area. The market usually begins in the late afternoon, around sunset, when rows of red canopy stalls are set up in long lines. As the light fades, the area becomes busier with both local residents and visitors coming to walk, shop, and spend time outdoors.

Most stalls focus on clothing, textiles, and small goods. Visitors can find T-shirts, traditional Lao fabrics, scarves, and handmade items such as bags or simple jewelry. Some products are locally made, while others are imported from nearby countries. Bargaining is common, and prices are often flexible, especially later in the evening. The market offers a chance to see everyday trade in a relaxed setting.

Food vendors are also present nearby, selling snacks, grilled meats, fruit shakes, and drinks. Plastic tables and chairs are sometimes set up along the edge, where people sit and eat while watching the river. The area often includes music, small performances, and children playing. The market usually runs for several hours before vendors pack up and clear the space later in the evening.
