Chiesa di San Bartolomeo di Rialto (Church of St. Bartholomew), Venice

According to tradition, the initial church on this site was dedicated to Saint Demetrius the Martyr of Thessaloniki as early as 840. In 1170, it underwent reconstruction with the addition of three aisles. Subsequently, the church was rededicated to Saint Bartholomew the Apostle and became a parish serving the German community in Venice, whose commercial headquarters were situated nearby at the Fondaco dei Tedeschi.

Over the course of time, due to the construction of the present Rialto Bridge and the redevelopment of the surrounding structures, the church disappeared from the exterior and underwent gradual interior renovations, eventually adopting its present appearance and size. The expansion project in 1723 was followed by the construction of the bell tower, which was completed in 1755 by Giovanni Scalfarotto.

Within the interior, notable features include sculptures by Enrico Merengo (Heinrich Meyring), a Venetian sculptor of German origin. The chancel showcases a high altar by Meyring adorned with three canvases by Palma the Younger, accompanied by a fresco on the ceiling executed by Michelangelo Morlaiter. In the upper left nave, there is a depiction of the "Miracle of the Bronze Serpents", also created by Palma the Younger, while the left aisle houses a portrayal of Saint Matthew by Leonardo Corona and a "Dormition" scene by Pietro Muttoni.
