Chubu Electric Power MIRAI TOWER, Nagoya

Completed in 1954, Chubu Electric Power MIRAI TOWER, formerly known as Nagoya TV Tower, is Japan’s oldest television broadcasting tower. The 180-meter-tall structure offers impressive views from its two main observation levels. The indoor Sky Deck, situated 90 meters above the ground, and the open-air Sky Balcony at 100 meters provide panoramic vistas across Nagoya.

The tower’s slender steel-lattice design is often compared to that of the Eiffel Tower and has become a distinctive feature of Nagoya’s skyline. In addition to its observation decks, the structure includes a restaurant and gallery space at a height of approximately 30 meters, where visitors can dine or explore exhibitions.

Nagoya TV Tower has also appeared in Japanese popular culture, particularly in the Godzilla film series. In the 1964 film Mothra vs. Godzilla, the tower is dramatically knocked down by Godzilla. Nearly three decades later, it meets a similar fate in the 1992 film Godzilla vs. Mothra, when it is destroyed by Battra during an attack on Nagoya. These memorable cinematic appearances have further strengthened the tower’s status as one of the city’s most recognizable landmarks.
