Sakae Station Shopping Area, Nagoya

Sakae is a lively urban district filled with shops, restaurants, cultural attractions, and entertainment venues. Its origins can be traced to the early 17th century, when the powerful shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu established Nagoya as a carefully planned castle town. Over time, Sakae developed into one of the city’s principal commercial centers, alongside the area surrounding Nagoya Station.

The district is centered on prominent landmarks such as the Chubu Electric Power MIRAI TOWER. During the day, Sakae attracts shoppers to its department stores, underground shopping arcades, and fashionable boutiques. The district also offers a wide range of dining options, from restaurants serving Nagoya specialties to establishments offering international cuisine.

After dark, Sakae becomes one of Nagoya’s main nightlife areas. Its bars, clubs, karaoke venues, and live music spaces cater to a variety of tastes, ranging from small standing bars to large, multi-level nightclubs playing rock, trance, hip-hop, and K-pop. Sakae also hosts numerous events throughout the year. Indoor attractions include the Aichi Prefectural Museum of Art and other cultural venues.
