Colegio Teresiano de Barcelona (Teresian College), Barcelona

Constructed in 1889 for the Reverend Mothers of St. Theresa, during a period when Gaudí occasionally incorporated straight lines into his designs, the upper floors of this former operating school exhibit steep peaks and a sense of architectural verticality. Gaudí took over the project from another architect, which imposed some limitations on his creative freedom, adding to which were the budget constraints that necessitated the predominant use of brick and stone.

The prominent features of the building include Gaudí's use of steep and narrow catenary arches, as well as Mudejar exposed-brick pillars. The second floor boasts a remarkable sight with two rows of unique catenary arches stretching across the width of the building, emphasizing the architect's belief that nature presents no two identical things. The brick columns are adorned with T-shaped brick capitals, symbolizing St. Theresa. Pay attention to the marble doorstep, where you can find an inscription by mystical writer and poet Santa Teresa de Avila (1515–82), which reads "todo se pasa" (all things pass).

The college serves as a private secondary school and is typically not accessible to the public; however, guided group visits may be arranged upon request.
