Daman-e-Koh (Skirt of the Hill), Islamabad

Daman-e-Koh, meaning “Skirt of the Hill,” is a viewpoint on the lower slopes of the Margalla Hills, about 2,400 feet (730 meters) above sea level. From this height, visitors can see the planned urban layout, green belts, and surrounding hills, while the Margallas form the southern foothills of the Himalayan mountain range. The viewpoint provides a useful introduction to the relationship between the capital and its natural setting.

The area was planned by the Capital Development Authority (CDA) during the 1970s and became a popular recreational destination in the early 1980s. A major upgrade in 2007 added terraced gardens, improved pathways, observation areas, and visitor facilities. Today, tourists come for photos, short walks, and sunrise or sunset views. A pictorial gallery adds a small historical dimension.

The surrounding forest forms part of the protected Margalla Hills National Park. Rhesus macaques, highly social, Old World monkeys native to Asia, are common, and visitors are advised not to feed them, as they may grab food or personal belongings. Leopards are sometimes reported on higher winter ridges, but rarely near the viewpoint. Active travelers can hike up Trail 2 in about 30–45 minutes.
