Saudi Pak Tower, Islamabad (must see)
Saudi Pak Tower is one of the most distinctive office buildings in Pakistan’s capital and a landmark in the city’s main commercial district. Completed in 1991, the tower was developed by the Saudi Pak Industrial and Agricultural Investment Company (SAPICO), a joint venture created through cooperation between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. It was one of the area’s early corporate high-rises and helped strengthen the district’s role as a business center.
The building was designed by renowned Pakistani architect Nayyar Ali Dada, whose approach combined modern office requirements with elements inspired by traditional Islamic architecture. One of its most striking features is the illusion that the tower is almost windowless. Deeply recessed glass openings behind beige concrete panels reduce heat and glare while allowing indirect daylight inside. Blue tile details link the facade to regional traditions, while an atrium and lightwells brighten the interior.
The tower is also noted for its structural design. Because the region lies relatively close to active fault zones, the building was engineered to high safety standards and has long been regarded as one of the most structurally stable commercial towers in the capital region. Rising approximately 19 floors above ground, with additional lower service levels, it became a prominent feature of the skyline and demonstrated how modern architecture could respond to both environmental and engineering challenges.
Today, Saudi Pak Tower remains a major business address, housing multinational corporations, financial institutions, technology firms, and international organizations. Over the years, it has also hosted offices used by foreign media agencies reporting from the region. It remains a sought-after business address, and its illuminated facade during special occasions adds to its presence in the urban landscape.
