Earle House, Sarasota

Earle House, Sarasota

Earle House is a stunning historical property that was constructed in 1927, with Classical Revival style and Georgian influences. It comprises both one and two-story buildings and is still in excellent condition today. The property has remained virtually unchanged since its completion, and it is considered a testament to the architectural and design excellence of the early 20th century.

It was originally built by George Earle, who purchased bay front property in Indian Beach in 1925. He first constructed a small home on the north portion of the land, and in 1927, he built the more substantial Earle House. The original architectural plans, which are in the possession of the current homeowners, show that the Clas & Sheperd firm of Sarasota and Milwaukee designed the property. The same architects were responsible for several notable public buildings, including the Milwaukee River improvement, the Washington Park Zoological Gardens, and the music shell in Humboldt Park in downtown Milwaukee.

Earle House is a historically significant property, and in recognition of its architectural significance, the City of Sarasota designated it as a local landmark in 1992. The property was also listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1993.
