Faculty of Law of The University of Potsdam, Potsdam

The Faculty of Law at the University of Potsdam is housed in the picturesque and historically significant Babelsberg Park, behind the iconic Babelsberg Palace near Steam Engine House (Dampfmaschinenhaus). Though the buildings used by the faculty were constructed in 1950, they are surrounded by structures dating back to the 19th century, reflecting the rich historical context of the area.

The Faculty of Law, specifically situated in Babelsberg/Griebnitzsee, occupies the former presidial and administrative buildings of the German Red Cross built in 1939/40, with additional lecture halls from the 1950s, constructed for the Academy of Justice during the East German era.

The Faculty of Law offers a comprehensive curriculum covering all essential courses for becoming a qualified lawyer in Germany, including civil, criminal, and public law. It provides specialized research and teaching in areas like business law, international law, public administration, and niche fields such as tax and environmental criminal law.

The University of Potsdam spans three main campuses, some of which are integrated into historic sites recognized as UNESCO World Heritage Sites, such as the New Palace of Sanssouci. Notably, parts of the university, including the library and the Institute of History, occupy areas within Sanssouci Park, while the Golm campus boasts buildings from the 1930s originally constructed for the Luftwaffe's intelligence department and later used by East Germany's Ministry for State Security.
