First Baptist Church of Eastport, Annapolis

The First Baptist Church of Eastport is a historic church that developed alongside the local community. The congregation was established in 1887 by residents who wanted a place for worship and gatherings. In 1899, several members helped organize another church group that later became Heritage Baptist Church.

The church building reflects the simple style used for many Protestant churches in the late nineteenth century. It has a rectangular structure with a main entrance at the front and tall windows that bring natural light into the sanctuary. A small steeple rises above the roof, making the building easy to recognize from nearby streets and the surrounding waterfront area. Inside, rows of wooden pews face a raised pulpit where sermons, prayers, and music take place during services.

Music has always been an important part of life in the church. Gospel singing and choir performances are regular parts of worship. The church also hosts youth programs, charity events, and community meetings. In a neighborhood historically known for its watermen, boatbuilders, and maritime workers, it has long been a place where faith and community life meet.
