Fish Fabrique, St. Petersburg

Fish Fabrique is a long-running alternative music club that opened on September 2, 1994, with a concert by local band Tequilajazzz. It developed within the independent artistic community associated with Pushkinskaya 10, whose buildings had been occupied since the late 1980s by artists, musicians, theater groups, and writers connected with the Free Culture Association.

The club became part of the underground music scene when relatively few venues regularly supported alternative performers. The original Fish Fabrique occupied a small space within the complex. In 1998, it moved into renovated premises and became an established part of the Pushkinskaya 10 Art Center. Its artistic environment was shaped by local creative groups: the interior was designed by the Rechniki collective, while monumental wall paintings were created by members of AKHE engineering theatre. A larger neighboring venue, Fish Fabrique Nouvelle, was later added, increasing capacity while the original underground bar continued operating. Music remains the main focus, ranging across rock, alternative, and experimental styles, alongside theater performances, visiting musicians, film screenings, and independent cultural events. The club combines its concert program with an informal café-bar atmosphere.

Fish Fabrique continues to operate today within the Pushkinskaya 10 cultural environment. Its history since 1994 connects the venue with independent artistic and musical communities that developed during the transition from the late Soviet cultural underground to the post-Soviet alternative scene.
