Former Rabobank Office, Eindhoven
Located on Dommelstraat in the heart of Eindhoven, the Former Rabobank Office stands as a testament to early 20th-century Dutch architecture. Originally built in 1909 as the headquarters for the Cooperative Central Farmers' Loan Bank (Coöperatieve Centrale Boerenleenbank)-the predecessor of Rabobank-the structure was designed by architect Jan Stuyt in the Um 1800 Bewegung or New Historicizing style. This architectural approach, with its emphasis on classical influences, is reflected in the building’s symmetrical façade, ornate detailing, and use of red brick.
The building’s design features a seven-bay façade, with the central section slightly protruding and culminating in a gabled roof. A round stair tower with a spire at the rear adds to its striking appearance. In the 1930s, an extension was added, seamlessly integrating with the original structure.
Recognized for its architectural and historical importance, the building was officially designated a National Monument (Rijksmonument) in 2002. While it no longer functions as a bank, it now houses a restaurant, allowing visitors to admire its well-preserved details while enjoying a meal in one of Eindhoven’s most notable heritage sites.
