Galatos, Auckland

The historic Newton building is home to Galatos, a renowned live music venue in Auckland. This property was constructed in the early 1900s and originally served as the lodge for the United Ancient Order of Druids. Over the years, it transformed into a dance venue and a boutique function center. During its heyday as a dance spot, its native timber parquet floor gained a reputation for being one of the fastest among Auckland's ballroom dancing clubs. Additionally, it was utilized as the clubroom for the New Zealand All Golds Cosmopolitan Club.

In 1999, the modern-day Galatos Bar and Venue was reintroduced as a live music venue. This establishment has hosted performances by numerous artists, including internationally recognized acts such as Coldplay, the Foo Fighters, Diplo, Blackalicious, DJ Krush, Cody Chestnut, Freq Nasty, The Mars Volta, Stereophonics, the John Butler Trio, and many local musicians who used the venue as a launching pad to achieve greater fame.

Galatos is a multi-level venue, with a mezzanine floor added around 1912. The building is divided into three areas, each with its own entrances but interconnected via stairways. When all areas are combined, the venue can accommodate a crowd of up to 520 people.
