Hamifletzet ("The Monster") in Rabinovich Park, Jerusalem

The "monster" or Hamifletzet, located in Rabinovich Park is a beloved playground sculpture and a recognized landmark of the city. Officially named The Golem, it was created in 1971 by French modern artist Niki de Saint Phalle, who also contributed to the sculpture garden at the Biblical Zoo.

The sculpture is surely a striking sight, featuring bold black, white, and red colors, resembling a melted Holstein cow. According to the artist, however, it represents a powerful woman who reigns over the park in a positive manner, challenging the stereotype of fragility associated with womanhood. Children climb into the sculpture through a hole and emerge from its bright red mouth.

Generations of children have enjoyed spending carefree hours climbing and sliding on Hamifletzet, making it the centerpiece of Rabinovich Park. While the park features other attractions and plenty of serene surroundings, the famous sculpture remains a favorite among visitors of all ages.
