Jerusalem Botanical Gardens, Jerusalem

The Jerusalem Botanical Gardens, established in 1985 and spanning 45 acres, offer a captivating exploration of plant life from around the world against the backdrop of a charming lake.

With over 6,000 taxa on display, the gardens contain the largest plant collection in Israel and the Middle East. Divided into sections representing various geographical regions, visitors can discover a diverse array of plant species, including geophytes, oaks, and bonsai trees. The unique climate of Jerusalem, characterized by cold winters and hot, dry summers, facilitates the cultivation of plants from a wide range of habitats.

One of the standout features is the Japanese section, home to the largest concentration of bonsai trees in the world, with over 150 specimens. Another noteworthy attraction is the "Bible Path", a 500-meter-long pathway adorned with many of the 70 species of plants mentioned in the Bible. In addition, the gardens offer a haven for birdwatchers, with 46 species of birds identified as regular visitors throughout the year.

Before or after exploring the site, you can unwind and enjoy a meal at the Caffit restaurant, conveniently located by the lake.
