Herr Nilsen, Oslo
Situated in Oslo, the Herr Nilsen Jazz Club stands as a hub for jazz enthusiasts. Nestled southeast of the Norwegian National Gallery, just a stone's throw north of the Hotel Bristol and Oslo Nye Teater, it offers a picturesque view of the courthouse square. The club has become renowned for its frequent hosting of both renowned domestic and international jazz artists, with a particular focus on the spirited sounds of Dixieland jazz, hailing from the heart of New Orleans.
While originally established as a pure jazz haven, the venue has evolved to encompass a diverse range of musical genres in its concert offerings. Since 1996, Oslo Jazzforum has graced the club's stage with their performances. Additionally, the Østkanten Blues Club, New Orleans Workshop Jazz Club, and Norwegian Americana Forum have all found a welcoming home for their regular events within these walls. During the 2000s, Herr Nilsen became an integral part of the National Jazz Scene project, further cementing its role in the jazz community. The New Orleans Jazz Club also found its quarters here, adding to the club's vibrant musical tapestry.
In 2015, Espen Nilsen, the driving force behind the establishment, was honored with the Ella Award, a prestigious accolade presented by the Oslo Jazz Festival. Since its inception in 1993, Herr Nilsen has thrived as a musical haven. Its namesake, Espen Nilsen, envisioned the club as a successor to the beloved Club 7, which had ceased its operations in 1985, and thus, this jazz haven came into being.
Opning Hours:
