House of the Good Shepherd, Bratislava

The House of the Good Shepherd in Bratislava is an example of Rococo architecture from the late 18th century, located just below the iconic Bratislava Castle. This building is remarkable for its original condition, unchanged since its construction, and features a distinctive golden color and tall, slender design that enhances Bratislava’s skyline.

Originally, the House of the Good Shepherd served a dual purpose; its upper floors provided residential space, while the lower level was used for commercial activities. The structure's narrow design includes just one room per floor, connected by a tight staircase, optimizing the limited space within.

Today, the building houses an impressive clock exhibit, showcasing over 60 timepieces, including sundials, wristwatches, wall clocks, and grandfather clocks. This collection highlights the craftsmanship of Slovakian artisans and traces the historical development of clocks as functional and decorative objects in society.

A notable feature of the building is a statue of Christ the Good Shepherd, embedded in one corner, which gives the house its name. The museum operates six days a week, Tuesday through Sunday, and remains closed on Mondays, inviting visitors to explore its rich history and exquisite artifacts year-round.
