Jardines del Real (Royal Gardens), Valencia
One of the main attractions in Valencia is the Royal Gardens, situated near the Museum of Fine Arts (Museo del Bellas Artes). Originally known as the Nursery Gardens or Jardines de Viveros, they were designed in the 1500s.
In 1560, Felipe II relocated a significant number of plants from the garden to embellish his Palace at Aranjuez. Within the gardens stood a small royal palace, which was removed in 1810 during the Spanish Independence War. Following the war, Francisco Javier Elio transformed the garden area, along with the remnants of the palace, into a park once again.
Presently, the park is immensely popular among both locals and tourists. It now houses a zoo, making it a worthwhile visit. The park boasts magnificent large trees, numerous benches, and enchanting fountains that enhance its beauty. The small lake provides a serene spot to feed the resident ducks, while the waterfall is a sight to behold. Art enthusiasts will also appreciate the abundance of outdoor sculptures scattered throughout the park.
