Lexington Market, Baltimore
Lexington Market is a historic market that has been in operation since 1782. The market was originally established without sheds and stalls, and farmers and watermen would bring their goods to sell. Today, Lexington Market is housed in a 60,000-square-foot market shed building, which was completed in 2022 and is home to 50 merchants and kiosks. The market is owned by the City of Baltimore and managed by the nonprofit Baltimore Public Markets Corporation.
The market is conveniently located near the Baltimore Light Rail and Baltimore Metro Subway stops of the same name, making it easily accessible to locals and tourists alike. It is also located about six blocks north of Oriole Park at Camden Yards, making it a great place to grab a bite to eat before or after a baseball game.
Lexington Market has a rich history, having been around for over 200 years. The land for the original market was donated by General John Eager Howard, and the market operated without sheds and stalls until 1871 when a shed was built for the market. After the shed was destroyed in a fire in 1949, the city built the "East Market" building at Paca and Lexington Streets. The market shed building was completed in 2022, replacing the East Market building which has been closed and slated for future development.
Today, Lexington Market is a popular spot for locals and tourists to grab lunch or pick up some groceries. There are many shops featuring deli sandwiches, fried chicken, Chinese food, pizza, cheesesteaks, hot dogs, peanuts, and authentic ethnic foods, as well as a historic shoe repair stand and florist.
Lexington Market is a must-visit destination in Baltimore for anyone interested in history, food, or culture. The market's rich history and wide variety of merchants and kiosks make it a popular spot for both locals and tourists alike.

Baltimore Introduction Walking Tour
Before the city fully wakes, picture a harbor under fire, the night sky lit by explosions, and a single question hanging in the smoke: can the flag still be seen at dawn? In 1814, as the bombardment of Fort McHenry came to an end, Francis Scott Key, an American lawyer and poet, looked out and found his answer: “O say can you see, by the dawn’s early light…” From that moment, Baltimore... view more
