Ljubljancek (souvernir store), Ljubljana

Ljubljanček is a souvenir shop offering gifts connected with Slovenian culture, folklore, craftsmanship, and regional food traditions. Its name means “Little Ljubljana,” while many products feature the dragon, a symbol associated with the legend of Jason and the Argonauts and later adopted as an emblem of strength and protection.

Shelves include ceramics, textiles, jewellery, postcards, woodenware, honey, chocolate, pumpkin seed oil, and coastal salt. Some objects draw on long-established crafts, including Ribnica woodenware and bird-shaped clay whistles inspired by rural pastoral traditions. Gifts decorated with painted beehive panels reproduce a form of folk art that developed in the 18th century, when colourful scenes helped beekeepers identify individual hives.

The shop also presents work by Slovenian designers, artists, and small producers. Dragon ornaments, alpine motifs, folk patterns, handcrafted objects, and regional foods allow visitors to choose gifts linked to different parts of the country. Staff can explain traditional designs and recommend suitable keepsakes or edible products.
