Long Bridge Park, Arlington

Long Bridge Park is a 36-acre public park that transformed a former industrial area into a major recreation and environmental space in Arlington. The first phase of the park opened in 2011, with later expansions adding additional facilities.

The park combines athletic fields, walking paths, natural areas, and viewpoints overlooking the Potomac River, the Washington skyline, and aircraft using nearby Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. It is used by athletes, families, walkers, cyclists, birdwatchers, and visitors exploring the area. The park contains three lighted synthetic-turf athletic fields used for soccer, rugby, lacrosse, football, and other sports, together with paved trails that connect to the regional trail network. The Long Bridge Aquatics & Fitness Center, which opened in 2021, features a 50-meter competition pool, a leisure pool with play features, a wellness pool, fitness spaces, classrooms, and community rooms. Other amenities include playgrounds, picnic tables, public art, landscaped gardens, a three-quarter-acre rain garden, overlooks, and educational signs describing local ecology and wildlife habitats. The park's green spaces provide habitat for birds and other wildlife while helping improve environmental conditions along the urban corridor.

Long Bridge Park hosts local and regional sports tournaments, fitness programs, environmental education activities, and community events throughout the year. Visitors can watch sporting competitions, walk along the elevated Esplanade, observe birds, or enjoy views of the river and passing aircraft. Because athletic fields and indoor facilities are frequently reserved for organized activities, access to some areas may be limited during scheduled events.
