Lucknow Charbagh Railway Station, Lucknow

Lucknow Charbagh Railway Station, Lucknow

Charbagh Railway Station is one of the two main stations of Lucknow for broad gauge railways. It is located in the southern part of the city. Its name comes from the word “Charbagh” that translates as four gardens, which existed here earlier. This station is also known as "Lucknow NR station" (because it is operated by Lucknow division of Northern Railway) and LKO railway station.

The building for the station was raised in 1923 and it was designed in Rajput, Awadh and Mughal architectural styles, in ceremonial red and white colors. It has a large garden in the front part. From afar, the structure looks like a palace. An interesting fact about it is that from aerial view the building looks like a chessboard and its domes and pillars as pieces of the game. It is a definite “must-see” spot in Lucknow.
