Luostarinmäki Handicraft Museum, Turku

Luostarinmäki Handicraft Museum, Turku (must see)

Luostarinmaki Handicrafts Museum is an open-air museum in Cloister Hill. It consists of 18 blocks of original buildings. Each of these buildings has been retrofitted to ensure the accuracy of the 18th and early 19th centuries.

Several buildings in the city were destroyed in the Great Fire of Turku in 1827. Only a few wooden homes and structures survived. The city of Turku chose to preserve these buildings to show what life was like in Turku before the fire.

The museum officially opened in 1940. Ten buildings were preserved and decorated with handicrafts, featuring the original appearance of the times they were built. In 1956, the remainder of the buildings in Luostarinmaki joined the museum.

Visitors to Luostarinmaki Handicrafts Museum can take guided tours or explore the area by themselves. Interactive exhibits in the cottage, the clocksmith's workshop, and the museum shop are ideal for those traveling with the young and young at heart.

The museum offers shopping opportunities, dining, and a post office that stamps postcards with a unique stamp for any recipient.
